This is not a detox. Unless you have been diagnosed with a health condition which may be compromising its detoxification capabilities, the liver does an excellent job of processing, repackaging and eliminating toxins from the body on a daily basis.

This is a 10 day diet that provides the liver with an opportunity to work at its very best. Giving the body a wealth of nutrients that augment its health and body swerving those that threaten it is key so if your eating habits have been somewhat indulgent for a spell, here's how to make a few changes and reap some excellent rewards:

first thing in the morning

  • 30 minutes of brisk walking, jogging or running (not always possible but do it whenever you can)
  • Skin brush then shower (turn the water to cool but not freezing for the last couple of minutes if you are feeling bold and are in good health)
  • A mug of Hot Lemon and Ginger

days 1, 2 and 3

Breakfast: 2 organic, free-range eggs scrambled with a little butter and topped with flaked, cooked salmon, trout or mackerel and toasted pine nuts or 2 slices of cold, cooked turkey breast with a small tub of natural cottage cheese and half an avocado, sliced

Mid Morning: raw vegetable sticks with a small tub or hummus or a small pack of mixed nuts and seeds

Lunch: 2 or 3 Lettuce Wraps

Mid Afternoon: a mug of Miso Soup (conveniently available in sachets and pastes)

Dinner: Finely sliced raw vegetables, meat, poultry, game, fish, shellfish or tofu plus bean sprouts gently steam-fried in a little water in a large sauté pan with the lid on until cooked and the water has evaporated then briskly stir fried with olive/rapeseed oil and fermented soy sauce to taste. Top with sesame seeds.

days 4, 5, 6 and 7

Breakfast: Essential Smoothie or Ham and Eggs

Mid Morning: chopped or sliced fresh fruit with a small pot of natural yoghurt or 2 celery sticks with 2 tablespoons of no-sugar almond or peanut butter

Lunch: Warm Salad or a generous bowl of meat, poultry, fish, shellfish, bean or lentil soup with plenty of vegetables (no potatoes, pasta or rice added)

Mid Afternoon: a cold cooked chicken leg or a cold boiled egg or a few cooked prawns with mayo or a small mixed bean salad

Dinner: Parcel-Baked Fish or Lemon Ginger Chicken with plenty of steamed greens on the side

days 8, 9 and 10

Breakfast: Bircher Muesli or any of the choices from Days 1 - 7

Mid Morning and Mid Afternoon Snacks: any of the choices from Days 1 - 7 

Lunch: Poached Egg Special or Open Sandwich

Dinner: Spiced Lamb Salad or Sweet Potato Curry with steamed greens on the side or any of the choices from Days 1-7


  • Still and sparkling water (5 glasses per day)
  • Black, green, white, red bush of fruit/herb tea without milk or sugar
  • Fresh fruit juices mixed 50:50 with water
  • Fresh vegetable juices

If you wish to follow the diet for another 4 to 7 days, simply start again with day 1 or day 4
